Mysteries of the Rosary

The Rosary is divided into four sets (or “chapters”) of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous. Each set contains five events in the life of Jesus (and Mary), inviting us to reflect deeply on different aspects of the Christian faith.

When we pray the Mysteries, we meditate on what these events reveal about God’s love, Christ’s mission, and how we can grow spiritually by applying those lessons to our daily life.

The Joyful Mysteries

Focus on Christ’s early life: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation in the Temple, and the Finding of Jesus in the Temple. They remind us of God’s entrance into the world and the simple joys of faithfulness and family.

The Sorrowful Mysteries

Centered on Christ’s Passion: the Agony in the Garden, the Scourging, the Crowning with Thorns, the Carrying of the Cross, and the Crucifixion. They teach perseverance, humility, and the depth of God’s love.

The Glorious Mysteries

Celebrate Jesus’ triumph and the fullness of salvation: the Resurrection, the Ascension, the Descent of the Holy Spirit, the Assumption of Mary, and the Coronation. They fill us with hope in God’s promise of eternal life.

The Luminous Mysteries

Introduced by St. John Paul II, these focus on Christ’s public ministry: His Baptism, the Wedding at Cana, the Proclamation of the Kingdom, the Transfiguration, and the Institution of the Eucharist. They reveal Jesus as the Light of the World.
